Lot 1104		Wanlass, Stanley. Freewheelin'. Automotive bronze of an 8C 2900B Alfa Romeo, 40" long on walnut base, engraved "Wanlass 84 FC/30". "FC" stands for Foundry Copy, of which there is only one. Mr. Wanlass explained to the consignor that the Foundry Copy was the best copy of the entire edition of 30 because it was the one by which all other copies were judged in the sculpting process. The current retail price for this piece is $52,500! Stanley Wanlass (1941 -) is often referred to as the modern-day Frederic Remington. His limited edition sculptures reflect his love for the automobile: collecting, restoring, racing, and especially, sculpting it. He considers the automobile "the only new, significant art form of the 20th century." His automotive sculptures and paintings are represented in the most prestigious museums and private collections world-wide. His sculptures are cast in bronze using the 6000 year old classic (lost wax) process called Cire Perdue. Lot 1105		Wanlass, Stanley. Passing of the Horse. Handpainted automotive bronze 34" long, on walnut base, engraved "Wanlass - 82 [1982] 30/30". An early automobile passes a horse that is running flat out, as his rider lashes him with his crop in an attempt to catch up with the car, but clearly, progress has outpaced the horse.
